Kiama Council is seeking community feedback on a new Cattle Grid Approvals Policy. This policy will guide how cattle grids are approved, inspected, maintained and repaired on public roads under Council’s care.
Why is this policy needed?
Council is legally responsible for structures within public roads and must issue permissions under the Roads Act 1993 and Roads Regulation 2008. This policy will provide clear rules and reduce risks for landowners and Council.
What does the policy cover?
- Standards for approval and licensing of cattle grids
- Minimum construction requirements
- Responsibilities for maintenance and repair
- Registration and record-keeping procedures
- A legal framework for enforcement
- Ensuring cattle grids do not negatively impact road users.
