Individuals and organisations occasionally offer donations or bequests to Council. This draft policy establishes a clear, transparent and consistent process for how these contributions are considered and managed.
The draft policy applies to:
- Financial donations
- In‑kind or material donations
- Bequests
- Donations offered with no expectation of benefit or activity in return
All donations must be voluntarily given and motivated by philanthropy, and managed in a way that upholds high standards of probity and accountability.
Under the draft policy, Council will:
- Assess all donations consistently and ethically
- Maintain an Incoming Sponsorship and Donations Register
- Record key details such as the donor, purpose of the donation, type of benefit and its status
- Clearly document reasons if a donation is refused
Some information from the register may be made publicly available on request, in line with privacy and information access laws.
