Kiama Council is partnering with Rhelm to undertake a Flood Study and Flood Risk Management Plan for the Spring Creek catchment area, which covers a land area of approximately 580 ha and spans a distance of approximately 5.2 km in length.
This study aims to:
- Improve our understanding of flood behaviour and risk in the Spring Creek catchment
- Improve community flood awareness and readiness
- Inform our response to managing flood risk to improve community resilience to flooding and future climatic conditions
- To identify the appropriate development controls and to guide the selection of management and mitigation strategies to respond to the flood risk in Spring Creek for existing and future development.
The Flood Study is an important step in the Flood Risk Management Process. The Flood Study informs the Flood Risk Management Plan that councils prepare to help manage flood risk, in accordance with NSW Government Requirements.
