Your contributions helped shape the Draft Community Strategic Plan, our shared vision for the future of the Kiama Municipality over the next ten years.

The Plan outlines the key goals and strategies to achieve that vision, while also considering the resources required to bring them to life.

These goals and strategies will be implemented through the Delivery Program 2025–2029, the Operational Plan 2025–2026 and the Resourcing Strategy. View the related project page.

What we heard (so far)

Community engagement for the development of the Community Strategic Plan showed that our community members have a strong desire for Council to be managed effectively and responsibly. They want core services delivered efficiently and elected representatives to prioritise the needs of residents when making decisions.

We heard that locals deeply value the beautiful and unique environment they call home and expect Council to continue protecting and maintaining both the natural and built environment. It is important to those we engaged with that Kiama LGA continues to be liveable for residents and welcoming place for residents, families, friends, and visitors.

Our community has also made it clear that they expect responsible, economically sound governance. There is a strong awareness of past challenges and their impacts, and through this engagement, community members have told us—loud and clear—that responsible, sustainable financial management, along with open and transparent communication, is essential moving forward.

Public exhibition

Between 7 April and 15 May 2025, we invited you to review and provide your feedback on the Draft Community Strategic Plan. Read the Community Engagement Report (PDF, 281 KB) for a detailed overview of what we heard during the public exhibition.

What we heard

During the public exhibition period a wide range of feedback was received from the community and stakeholders. Key concerns included the financial management of Council, particularly ongoing involvement in aged care. Several submissions highlighted the need for improved infrastructure including better maintenance of public spaces, upgrades to the harbour foreshore and more accessible streetscapes.

There was strong support for revitalising community life through outdoor events, safer spaces for families and the elderly and better cultural and recreational facilities.

Some respondents felt the plan lacked measurable outcomes and called for clearer strategies to support inclusion, particularly for LGBTIQ+ people, people with disabilities and diverse cultural groups. Others praised the structure, engagement approach and vision of the plan while suggesting it could be made more accessible through clearer language, improved visuals and community-friendly summaries.

Overall, feedback reflected a desire for more practical, inclusive and outcomes-driven action.
